This Cookie Policy explains how SeeTheMenu uses cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage) on our website and digital-menu service. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. "Local storage" is a similar browser feature that lets a site remember small pieces of information. Both are used to make a site work and to remember your choices.

Cookies and storage we use

Some of what we use is strictly necessary or functional — the kind that does not require prior consent because it is essential to providing the service you asked for. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set if you agree to them in the cookie dialog, and you can change or withdraw that agreement at any time through Cookie settings in the footer.

  • Cookie choice (stm_consent) — records the categories you agreed to, and the version of this policy you were shown, so we do not ask again on every page. Necessary. Expires after 12 months.
  • Language (w_lang) — set only when you pick a language from the switcher, so the site stays in it. Necessary. Expires after 30 days.
  • Session cookie — keeps you logged in as you move around the dashboard. Necessary. Expires when your session ends.
  • Security token (CSRF) — protects forms and actions against cross-site request forgery. Necessary. Lasts for your session.
  • Chat abuse-control cookie (smc_blocked_…) — only set if the AI menu assistant temporarily blocks a session for misuse; it prevents further messages for a short period. Necessary. Expires after about 30 minutes.
  • Chat consent flag (browser local storage, smc_consent) — remembers that a diner accepted the privacy notice before using the chat, so they are not asked again. Functional. Stored until the browser data is cleared.
  • Language / currency preference — where you change the language or currency of a menu, your choice may be remembered so the menu shows it next time. Functional.

Analytics and advertising — only if you agree

Nothing in this section runs unless you have chosen the matching category in the cookie dialog. Until you do, none of these is loaded at all: the page is delivered without them rather than loading them and switching them off afterwards.

  • Statistics — Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_5XS5XL3GYS), so we can see which pages are read and which are not. Set only with your agreement to Statistics. The _ga cookie lasts up to 24 months.
  • Marketing — the Meta Pixel (_fbp), used to measure whether our advertising works and to build advertising audiences. Set only with your agreement to Marketing. Lasts up to 3 months. This one does involve Meta, and it is the reason the dialog asks separately.

Withdrawing a category deletes the cookies it set and reloads the page without the tag, so it stops immediately rather than at the end of the session.

We also keep a small server-side record of each page view — the page, the referring site, campaign tags, coarse device and browser type and language. Your IP address is never stored in raw form; it is turned into a one-way hash that rotates every month. That record sets no cookie and identifies nobody.

An earlier version of this policy said the site used no advertising or tracking cookies. That was true until Google Analytics and the Meta Pixel were added on 4 September 2026, both behind the consent dialog described above.

Third-party cookies

A small number of features rely on third parties that may set their own cookies, only when you use them:

  • Stripe — sets cookies on our checkout/billing pages for payment security and fraud prevention.
  • Google — sets cookies if you choose "Sign in with Google".

These are governed by the respective provider's own cookie and privacy policies.

Managing cookies

The analytics and advertising categories are yours to change at any time: open Cookie settings, or use the same link in the footer of any page. Refusing is as easy as accepting, and refusing costs you nothing on this site.

Most browsers also let you view, manage and delete cookies and clear local storage through their settings. To learn more, visit www.aboutcookies.org or www.allaboutcookies.org. The necessary cookies cannot be turned off from the dialog, because disabling them would stop parts of the service (such as logging in or the chat) from working.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time and will change the "last updated" date above.
