This Cookie Policy explains how SeeTheMenu uses cookies and similar technologies (such as browser local storage) on our website and digital-menu service. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. "Local storage" is a similar browser feature that lets a site remember small pieces of information. Both are used to make a site work and to remember your choices.

Cookies and storage we use

We use only strictly necessary and functional cookies and storage — the kind that do not require prior consent because they are essential to providing the service you asked for. We do not use advertising, marketing or cross-site tracking cookies.

  • Session cookie — keeps you logged in as you move around the dashboard. Necessary. Expires when your session ends.
  • Security token (CSRF) — protects forms and actions against cross-site request forgery. Necessary. Lasts for your session.
  • Chat abuse-control cookie (smc_blocked_…) — only set if the AI menu assistant temporarily blocks a session for misuse; it prevents further messages for a short period. Necessary. Expires after about 30 minutes.
  • Chat consent flag (browser local storage, smc_consent) — remembers that a diner accepted the privacy notice before using the chat, so they are not asked again. Functional. Stored until the browser data is cleared.
  • Language / currency preference — where you change the language or currency of a menu, your choice may be remembered so the menu shows it next time. Functional.

Analytics — without cookies

We do measure how our marketing site is used, but we do so without cookies and without tracking you across websites. Our analytics record only the page viewed, the referring site, campaign tags, coarse device/browser type and language. Your IP address is never stored in raw form — it is turned into a one-way hash that rotates every month, so the data cannot be tied back to you over time. Because this uses no cookies and no persistent identifiers, it does not require a consent banner. (This corrects earlier versions of this policy which stated that no analytics were collected.)

Third-party cookies

A small number of features rely on third parties that may set their own cookies, only when you use them:

  • Stripe — sets cookies on our checkout/billing pages for payment security and fraud prevention.
  • Google — sets cookies if you choose "Sign in with Google".

These are governed by the respective provider's own cookie and privacy policies.

Managing cookies

Most browsers let you view, manage and delete cookies and clear local storage through their settings. To learn more, visit www.aboutcookies.org or www.allaboutcookies.org. Because the cookies and storage we use are essential, disabling them may stop parts of the service (such as logging in or the chat) from working.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time and will change the "last updated" date above.
